What You Need to Know
For more than six decades, St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Hyderabad, Sindh, has been committed to providing compassionate healthcare to some of the most underserved communities in Pakistan. A vital part of this mission is the St Elizabeth School of Midwifery, which trains young women to become skilled midwives and frontline healthcare providers. Maternal and newborn health remains a major challenge in many rural areas of Sindh. Too many mothers and babies still lack access to trained professionals during pregnancy and childbirth. By training qualified midwives, the school plays a crucial role in improving the safety of deliveries, reducing maternal mortality, and strengthening community healthcare.
Each year, the programme welcomes a new cohort of students, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, who receive professional training combining classroom learning with hands-on clinical experience in the hospital’s maternity wards. Graduates go on to serve in hospitals, clinics, and rural communities across the region. Over the years, the school has trained hundreds of midwives who are now helping mothers and newborns receive safe and dignified care.
